431843-001 HP Pavilion dv2000, dv2100, dv6100 and Compaq Presario V3000, V3100 AMD nVIDIA Laptop Motherboard

I had a customer this past weekend who brought me her hp dv6100 AMD dual core laptop to install a new motherboard which stopped functioning for her. She also did research and bought the replacement online herself which makes my job a whole lot easier. Ahhh If only every customer knew how to find the part # of the system board they needed lol, jk.

The customer brought in motherboard PN: 431843-001 which is a "PC Board : System board (motherboard) for full-featured models - AMD dual-core processor supported, nVIDIA C51M chipset (Northbridge) which has the MCP51 Southbridge"

This replacement hp number (431843-001) I found is also used for Compaq Presario V3000, V3100 and HP Pavilion dv2000, dv2100 and dv6100 Series Laptops (REMEMBER THIS PART NUMBER IS FOR THE AMD CHIPSET NOTEBOOKS ONLY)

  1. I have a Compaq Presario V3000 laptop with an AMD motherboard. I will be on the laptop for awhile and the video starts messing up, sometimes with funny characters. Could you tell me what causes this?

  2. Hey Joe, thanks for stopping by. It honestly sounds more like a problem with the LCD inverter cable and not a motherboard issue. Since you said the laptop is fine for awhile then the video start’s messing up, it cannot be the systemboard as your laptop would not act that way. You didn’t mention any damage to the display itself and there would be dead pixel blocks and blotches if your screen was cracked internally. From experience, I believe it could be either one of 3 things:

    1. The laptop display inverter could be not functioning and may need replacing.

    2. The little flat plug-in wire that goes from the display to the motherboard could be loose and just needs pushing back in or the cable could be acting up. I have had many problem with inverter cables going bad and causing problems like yours.

    3. The laptop may work until it builds up heat which would cause many related issues of errors/problems. Make sure you get a can of compressed air and clean out everywhere you could that you see dust. If you know how to, open the machine or any part you could get to inside and clean the fan, heatsink and add thermal grease to the CPU while your inside the machine. If any part overheats it will cause the motherboard to fry and you would end up having to replace the whole board which will cost you more then what the laptop is worth now possibly.

Keep me updated on your progress and if you need additional help, please feel free to ask. Have a good one.

I have one of these little gremlins ;)

It periodically has done the failed boot thing w/the display memory audio error in POST. I’ve been able to get it going by doing a power reset (disco ac & Batt, depress pwr for 20+ sec) and holding down either the Win+esc or FN+esc (can’t recall which) while powering up. It is well out of warranty. Is there a good replacement board for these, or just a new one that will act up again?

  4. To the best of my knowledge, hp motherboard’s are part number specific and unfortunately will only accept and fit this same exact part number. You could try calling hp (1800-hp-invent) to ask if they fixed the problem and have a new number but I do not have that information currently. I will keep you updated if I am able to find out. Thanks for writing and I understand the frustration with having to use part that you have not had good luck with.

  5. Hi,
Interesting, I`ll quote it on my site later.

  8. I have a HP Pav. DV2125NR. Several days ago the screen flashed to white and locked up. I had to manually power it down and when i tried to reboot all I can get is a black screen with the lights on.I checked the HD in a external USB enclosure and all seems well. I guess the question is; is this unit be worth repairing? Thanks.

  9. Interesting you would mention blotches. It does have some white blotches. Does this mean the LCD is no good? thanks.

  10. HP DV2025nr. Will only boot on battery power. No video on AC?? Logos are orange in color when it boots. Is this the motherboard? Thanks!!

  11. This will work in my hp compaq dv6100 model laptop?

  12. Sounds like a lcd problem more than motherboard.

  13. Yes from what you gave me. Be more detailed and I could be more accurate in helping.
