820-1889-A Apple MacBook A1181 Intel Logic Motherboard
Let's start off the week talking about Apple laptop motherboards! However, there is some good news for you mac user's but unfortunately some bad news about the notebook if your A1181 model contains the 820-1889-A logic board using the Intel Penryn setup.
The good news is Apple's new line of MacBook and MacBook Pro's come with the latest Penryn Intel Core 2 Duo processor, standard larger hard drives and most models already come with 2GB of memory standard out of the box. The bad news is that they do have a tendency to breakdown in the strangest ways, which in return requires you to repair or replace the laptop motherboard.
I receive a decent amount of e-mails about apple motherboards mostly about how the biggest issue seems to be that people are having a hard time figuring out where to even begin due to the lack of information provided by Apple and even on the internet.
The 820-1889-A PC main board do share a few very nice features - first and foremost it's made and used only for 2.1GHz to 2.5GHz (Penryn) CPU chipsets. All the logicboards have four wall connectors - Now they come standard with 667MHz memory support - You will find that this specific part number has one (8W) FireWire 400 port and two USB 2.0 ports (which come standard in the whole A1181 series).
Apple Laptop 820-1889-A Compatibility List:
13.3" White Using a 2.1GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.
The 13.3" and 15.4" White / Black with a Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz.
Finally all 15.4" and 17" LCD models which have the 2.5GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor.
As far as I know, that is the list of the different configurations that the 820-1889-A notebook system board comes in and supports (I am positive they work since I replaced one for each over the past few months):
